Cruit Island (Irish: ''An Chruit'' or ''Oileán na Cruite'') is a small inhabited island in the Rosses region of County Donegal, Ireland. It is linked to the mainland by bridge. The island is a major centre for rock climbing on its granite sea-cliffs; the 2002 guidebook lists about 27 single-pitch climbs, mostly established in 1985. Since 2007 another 300 rock climbs have been recorded on the granite sea cliffs all over the island ==Culture== Cruit Island has a strong musical heritage. Local musician Seán McBride wrote the famous Irish ballad "The Homes of Donegal" in 1955.〔http://www.tripatlas.com/videoplay/nJqoqHIAz-M〕 The song "Thíos Cois na Trá Domh" originates from the island and remains a very popular song in the Donegal Gaeltacht to this day.
